Introduction
LHPA Hospital Ministries works in
cooperation with the Saskatoon Health Board in the area of Spiritual Care
to provide a vital service to patients in Saskatoon hospitals. Each week several members of LHPA are
involved in visiting and ministering to the sick, the injured, and the
terminally ill. Many of these people receive encouragement
and ministry at a time when they need it the most.
Over time this ministry has grown to
include the visitation of loved ones, family members, and friends of those from
across our nation. People from as far away as eastern Canada have contacted
the church and asked if someone could visit a sick friend, or
a dying loved one.
Joining the Team
Each person of the Hospital Ministry
Team must have a recommendation from the Senior Pastor. The pastor makes
up a letter of reference that is attached to an application form. This
form is given to the Director of Spiritual Care at the hospital. Upon
approval from the Saskatoon Health Board a photo is taken and an I.D. badge is made that
is worn during visitation ministry. A parking pass is also provided so
that volunteers do not have to pay parking fees during visitation
ministry.
Each team member is encouraged to make
at least one visit a week. The purpose of the visit is to simply bring
love, comfort & cheer into lives that may be discouraged and suffering.
As well as making weekly visits
volunteers are encouraged to attend funerals and the occasional social
function sponsored by the Health Board.
